RSS stands for Real Simple Syndication and it really was "real simple" to complete Test Drive 5! Following Mary's advice, I googled RSS +library and there were 212,000,000 results! Where to start??? As luck would have it, there was just 1 sponsored link appearing to the right of the webpage and it linked to ALA TechSource (http://www.techsource.ala.org/ltr/web-20-and-libraries-best-practices-for-social-software.html?gclid=COyIg_mWxZoCFRQNewodphUCsg ) which is a unit of the publishing department of the American Library Association and highlighted an article on Web 2.0 and Libraries: Best Practices for Social Software.
This is worth a read as it illustrates how some American libraries are using Web 2 now.
But back to RSS - really a central place to read all the latest from your favourite internet sources. These "feeds" can also be delivered to your mobile phone!!! I read of one American public library offering Podcasts to their customers with a variety of library and organisational content - programs, debates, etc. These podcasts, which customers are notified about via RSS, are downloaded onto computer or MP3 player for easy access.
Fascinating technology, isnt it!
Library Fun
